Happy New Year!

The new issue of the best English language magazine on modern Japanese music, purpleSKY, sports a fancy Captains cover as well as a great feature interview with frontman Kizuhiko.

Also, the new issue of Otaku USA has a three page tour diary written by myself (Eric B.). I will be sure to post the entire diary here in the near future.

Back from tour, safe and sound. The Captains had a ball during their first visit to the US and plan on returning as soon as possible. Big thanks go out to all of our new East Coast friends. A tour diary with pics will be posted here in a few weeks.

I'll be in England for the first two weeks of October so orders will be shipped out upon my return. I deserve a vacation.

Tokyo No Records is pleased to announce its first CD release: The Captains "Last Group Sounds". The 10 track CD will be released this September in conjunction with the band's first US tour (dates will be announced soon). The Captains are modern GS champions and one of my personal favorite bands. More details on the whole shebang will be posted soon.

R.I.P. The Spunks. They played their very last show as a band here in Philadelphia, their set ended with a cover of Guitar Wolf's CanNana Fever. The Spunks will be dearly missed.

Recent additions:

Envy
"Insomniac doze" CD
One of the leading bands in the Japanese hardcore scene since they formed back in 1992. Beautifully brutal. Mogwai and Isis are fans. Recommended.

Ellegarden
"Riot On The Grill" CD
Emotional poppy punk for teenyboppers and their boyfriends. The mainstream emo sound has officially made its way to Japan. Saves the Day with talent.

eX-Girl
"Endangered Species" CD
Operatic vocals over genre-bending avant-noise rock played by three girls who wear brightly-colored costumes and hail from the distant world of Planet KeroKero. One of our favorite bands.

ni hao!
"Red Blue Green" Enhanced CD
Color-coded ni hao! play a sweet blend of pop, punk, rock, and new wave. Enhanced CD includes rehearsal footage and an incredible puppet show.

Petty Booka
"Dancing With Petty Booka" CD
World famous ukulele-playing pop duo from Tokyo Petty Booka play Hawaiian and bluegrass inspired covers of country, punk and classic rock songs. Highly recommended.

The Spunks
"Yellow Fever Blues" CD
NYC's (via Japan's) finest are back with 12 tracks of furiously humorous rock and roll. Highly recommended for fans of Guitar Wolf, Teengenerate and Chinese food.
