8 Roof
"Yeah! If you can't win!!" CD
Politically-minded sing-along pop punk.
13 track CD released in 2001 on Snuffy Smile. Their "thank
you" credits include "all people who helped us...and you
unless you're cop".
|
Afrirampo "Kore Ga Mayaku Da" CD
Afrirampo are two 20 year old girls out
of the infamous Osaka scene who sing and play guitar/drums while
dressed in outrageous costumes. The influence of such close friends
as Boredoms and Acid Mother's Temple definitely shows on this eleven
track experiment in tempo, progression, and animalistic fury. Highly
recommended for fans of harsh, off-beat music. John Zorn's seal
of approval.
|
Akiakane
"Kasumisou" CD
From the ashes of Softball comes lead singer
Moe's new band Akiakane. And thankfully they're just as good as
the former. 12 tracks of sing along pop punk including a secret
cover track of the Sex Pistols' "EMI".
|
The Amppez
"The Irony of a Sweet Fruit" CD
Female three piece from Shizuoka that play
melodic, melancholic rock songs. The emotion level is high as are
the melodies, beautiful stuff. Perfect music for a Sunday afternoon.
This is their debut seven song CDep.
|
Banana Erectors "S/T" CD
From Yamaguchi with love. Take the buzzsaw punk rock
assault of the Ramones circa 1977 and throw in 60s styled female
bubblegum pop vocals and you have the Banana Erectors. Includes
a cover of the Partridge Family's "I Woke Up In Love This Morning".
Highly recommended.
|
Bleach 03
"S/T" CD
A terrifically aggressive and talented female
three-piece. The 10 songs on their US debut range from soft ballads
to ska-like pop numbers, addictive as hell with a mass appeal. We
love this CD, highly recommended.
|
Brain Failure
"American Dreamer" CD
US debut from China's biggest punk band
(who cares if they're not Japanese, this CD is classic). This foursome
from Beijing have amassed quite a following after appearing on an
Epitaph "Give Em The Boot" compilation and touring with
Dropkick Murphys, a member of which produced this CD. It also features
guest vocals by Mark of The Unseen. Perfectly danceable sing-along
punk rock for fans of Rancid and The Clash.
|

Buttersprites
"Buttersprites" CD
Debut full-length from this
punky and poppy female five-piece. With members hailing from Washington,
Hawaii, and Japan, The Buttersprites are perhaps best known for
their custom-designed costumes. The perfect gift for the cosplayer
in your family. Japanese and English lyrics.
|

Caroline
"Murmurs" CD
"Caroline will impress, depress,
compress, suppress and repress your most inhibited desires."
Born in Okinawa and currently residing in LA, singer/songwriter
Caroline Lufkin plays light, hypnotic rock that defies description
and begs imitation. Beautiful stuff recommended for fans of Bjork
and Imogen Heap. Give her a try, you'll be impressed.
TEMPORARILY OUT OF STOCK 1/16/08

Caroline
"Where's My Love" CD Single
Caroline's critically acclaimed three track debut.
A mix of minimalist electronic instrumentation, classic arrangements
and supernatural vocals. Includes a remix of the title track and
an unreleased song.
|
Coquettish "S/T" CD
The debut EP from Yokohama's hardcore quartet Coquettish.
Loud punk rock with occasional hints of ska. Your parents will ask
you to turn down your stereo, you'll ignore them and turn it up.
Then they'll ground you and you'll have to use headphones. Always
listen to your parents.
|
Coquettish "High Energy Politics" CD
Debut full-length (13 tracks) from this Yokohama-based
quartet. Loud punk rock with occasional lapses into ska, grindcore,
and jazz. Produced by Dan Lukacinsky of the Suicide Machines. For
fans of Operation Ivy and Hi-Standard. Hot Topic shoppers need not
apply.

Cornelius "Five Point One" DVD/CD
Cornelius has been heralded as the Brian
Wilson of modern music due to his innovative take on the pop/rock
genre. Deeply rooted in technology and overflowing with samples,
Cornelius chooses to create cohesive, musical journeys rather than
straight-forward pop albums. This DVD contains the majority of Cornelius'
"Point" album mixed in 5.1 surround sound with the accompanying
music videos. These are honestly some of the most innovative videos
you will ever see (watch the camera travel through coat-hangers
and the holes in bagels!). The accompanying CD contains fan remixes
of the album and are must-have tracks for Cornelius fans. Highly
recommended.

The Dudoos
"Kogidaso! Shura-Shu-Shun!" CD
Tokyo no Radio's favorite Japanese band. This eleven track CD is
the second release from Tokyo's masters of wacky, super-fast, keyboard-driven
punk rock. Recommended for fans of the Toy Dolls. The audio equivalent
of anime.
|

The Dudoos "Specium Sommer"
CD
The debut release/full-length from Tokyo no Radio's favorite Japanese
band. The Dudoos specialize in super high energy punk rock in the
vein of the Toy Dolls. Picture one of those crazy Japanese game
shows. Now take that image and record it to a CD and you're getting
close.

Eel "People People" CD
"Its A Small World After All"
set to an electronic beat with a dash of Japanese quirkiness. This
is some of the sweetest, most upbeat electro-pop you will ever hear.
Simple, straightforward, and highly addictive. For Mates of State
fans with short attention spans.
|
Electric Eel Shock
"Beat Me" CD
This 2005 release is the record that EES
were born to make. 12 tracks of pure rock and roll that will seem
perfect to some, over the top to others, but enjoyable by all. Produced
by Attie Bauw of Scorpions and Judas Priest fame. EES is much better
than either of those bands though. CD includes a fantastic cover
of Sabbath's "Iron Man". Highly recommended.
|
Electric Eel Shock
"Go USA!" CD
A re-worked US release of the Japan only
"Go America" album featuring extra tracks and two bonus
videos. EES play a unique brand of aggro-pop metal, which they perform
live with frantic precision and a naked drummer. This is the record
that contains all of the songs the threesome are known for including
"Suicide Rock 'N' Roll" and "Japanese Meets Chinese
In USA". One of our favorite bands.
|
Ellegarden
"Riot On The Grill" CD
Emotional poppy punk for teenyboppers and
their boyfriends. The mainstream emo sound has officially made its
way to Japan and no one is harnassing it more effectively than Ellegarden.
Think Saves the Day meets Sum 41 meets talent. Their positive songs
about heartbreak and innocence have gained them a huge following
amongst the youth of Japan and after an early 2006 US tour they're
finally being noticed stateside. Highly safe, highly recommended.
|
The Emeralds "Surfing Baby" CD
Released in May 2005, this
three song EP features The Emeralds' newest recordings and serves
as a great indication of things to come. Japan-only release on Cranberry
Records.
|
The Emeralds "Talk About Love" CD
Self-released five song EP from the "New Agers
of Japanese Rock and Roll". The Emeralds play sharp, catchy,
pop-based R'n'R and they do so with style. They played SXSW in '04
and '05 and will surely have an American distribution deal inked
in no time. This CD features their earliest recordings and is not
available in the States.
|
Envy "Insomniac doze" CD
One of the leading bands in the Japanese
hardcore scene since they formed back in 1992. Envy play sprawling
Mono-esque rock songs that evolve into intensely emotional acts
of aggression. Their songs begin quiet and meditative, build to
loud guitar work with screaming vocals and then retreat the same
way they came. Mogwai and Isis are fans. Recommended.
|
eX-Girl "Endangered Species" CD
Words cannot describe the greatness that
is eX-Girl, but we'll try. Operatic vocals over genre-bending avant-noise
rock played by three girls who wear brightly-colored costumes and
hail from the distant world of Planet KeroKero. Fans include Mike
Patton and Jello Biafra. This is their 5th full-length and, like
their other albums, is produced by Hoppy Kamiyama, the Steve Albini
of Japan. Highest possible recommendation.
|

The 5.6.7.8's "Bomb
The Twist" CD
Six song EP from the queens of throwback Japanese garage
rock. You saw them in Kill Bill. Their cover of the Rocketeens'
"Woo Hoo" was included on the soundtrack for that film,
but it appeared on this CD first. The title track is possibly the
greatest song they've ever recorded. Highly recommended.
|
The 5.6.7.8's
"Bomb the Twist" 7"
Seven inches of upbeat primitive rock on classic
black vinyl. The B-side is the unreleased track "It's Rainy".
Beautiful packaging that will impress your friends.
|
Friday Knights
"Nice View From Zero" CD
Friday Knights are a three piece punk rock
outfit that formed in Japan back in '96. They've since relocated
to L.A. where they continue bringing their Japanese sensibilities
to the California scene. This is a seven song EP released in late
'05. Contains a great cover of the Ramones' "Blitzkrieg Bop".
